Sudanese polio case heightens fear

The discovery of a polio-stricken child in Sudan’s war-ravaged Darfur region is fuelling fears that all of West and Central Africa is on the brink of an epidemic outbreak of the devastating childhood disease. Sudan — along with much of the African continent — has been free of polio for years.
