Security has been beefed up across Pakistan amid fears of retaliation by Islamic militants after a recent crackdown on al Qaeda-linked fighters and their Pakistani tribal allies, the interior minister said on Monday. There was no specific threat, but reprisal attacks could not be ruled out after arrests of militants in Karachi and the killing of a top tribal ally of al Qaeda fighters in a remote region bordering Afghanistan, Faisal Saleh Hayat said. “We have ordered high alert in the context of the prevailing security environment in the country,” Hayat told Reuters.
