Police arrested suspected Muslim militants in the Jordanian capital on Monday, security officials said. Government spokeswoman Asma Khader said that “there was an operation” based on “some information made available to police.” She declined further comment, saying an investigation was under way. The security officials did not say how many were arrested and have few details. One of the suspects was taken by police to a small restaurant in an Amman commercial area, apparently to have him re-enact his crime, a cashier at the restaurant said. The suspect — blindfolded, handcuffed and dressed in pajamas — sat at a table and spoke for about 20 minutes as police took pictures and videotape, said the cashier, who gave only one name, Emad. The man, who appeared to be in his late 20s, gestured at the floor and pointed at doors in the restaurant as he spoke, according to the cashier, who did not know what the man was suspected of.
