Fears about Iraqi leaders’ security rose yesterday after the assassination of two high-ranking government officials, part of a wave of violence in the capital area that appears aimed at derailing the June 30 transfer of sovereignty. Washington has pledged military support to fight the violence in the runup to the handover, but U.S. Secretary of State Colin Powell acknowledged that its abilities are limited. “We are going to do everything we can, using our military forces there and the Iraqi security forces to try to defeat these murderers,” Mr. Powell pledged during an interview with Fox News Sunday. “. . .
