Fourteen Yemenis went on trial charged with terrorist acts, including the October 2002 attack on a French supertanker Limburg, an AFP correspondent witnessed. The trial of militants charged with bombing the USS Cole in Aden port in October 2000 will follow, probably in the second week of June, a source close to the prosecutor general said earlier this week. Those who went on trial Saturday faced a variety of charges, principally for the attack on the Limburg as it prepared to enter Ash-Shir port, off Yemen’s southeastern coast. One Bulgarian crew member was killed and 12 others were injured when an explosion ripped through the tanker. Other charges include planning attacks on US Ambassador Edmund Hall and against various embassies in Sanaa, as well as for attacks on Yemeni intelligence service offices and the murder of police officers.
