The United States and Saudi Arabia are to announce this week additional moves to tighten the financial chokehold on a charity suspected of aiding al-Qaeda, US officials said. US and Saudi officials are to announce Wednesay that they will freeze the assets of several affiliates and aliases of the Al-Haramain Islamic Foundation by placing the groups on a terrorism blacklist. “This will freeze their assets in the United States and Saudi Arabia,” one official said. A second official said Washington and Riyadh would also be asking the United Nations to designate the Al-Haramain affiliates as terrorist groups and require UN members to take similar action against them.
