The United States said it does not know the location of Colombian paramilitary leader Carlos Castano, in spite of reports he may have been spirited out of Colombia with US help. “We don’t have anything on that. We’ve taken a look and we don’t know where these reports are coming from. We have not been in contact with this individual. We do not know where he is, and we don’t know where those reports came from,” State Department spokesman Gonzalo Gallegos said. Castano, the 39-year-old co-founder of the United Self-Defense Forces of Colombia, disappeared from his ranch in northern Colombia April 16 under mysterious circumstances in the midst of talks to demobilize his paramilitary army.
