Gov. Rick Perry announced on Thursday that 544 Texas jurisdictions will receive more than $58 million in federal funds for equipment, security planning and training to improve Texas homeland security preparedness. According to the governor’s Web site, jurisdictions represented by the Deep East Texas Council of Governments will receive a total of $1,569,358. This is the second year that the Department of Homeland Security has distributed money to local governments, according to Wendy Bengal, a spokeswoman with the governor’s office.
