The government’s ability to respond to another domestic terrorist attack was put to the test Wednesday when a simulated radiological “dirty bomb” went off at the Pentagon. The exercise, called Gallant Fox II, was staged to test the Pentagon Force Protection Agency’s emergency response units in a real-world scenario. Meanwhile, in New York City, the federal commission investigating the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks at the Pentagon and World Trade Center ended two days of hearings on emergency response Wednesday by concluding that agencies were plagued by poor communication and coordination.
