US-led forces killed 32 Iraqis when they raided a mosque in the holy city of Kufa, but despite a string of tactical victories the political costs of the war in Iraq continued to rise for US President George W. Bush. The Kufa attack came as US writer and filmmaker Michael Moore basked in the glory of winning the Cannes film festival’s top prize for a documentary that virulently attacks Bush and his Iraq policies.
