Police have tightened security on a road construction project in Iloilo after suspected communist rebels burned several construction equipment worth 15 million pesos in Guimbal town on Tuesday. Chief Superintendent George Aliño, Western Visayas regional police director, said he had instructed police units to closely monitor the area and to conduct regular patrols to prevent similar incidents. He also urged companies receiving threats from the communist rebels to coordinate and cooperate with the police to secure their property and projects. At least eight suspected New People’s Army (NPA) rebels entered the compound of E.C. de Luna Construction Corp. in Barangay Patricion in Guimbal, 29 km south of Iloilo City.
