Yitzhak Rabin's Assassin Defends Killing

The Israeli who assassinated Prime Minister Yitzhak Rabin defended his actions on Monday, saying he did it to derail a peace process that would have destroyed Israel. Yigal Amir spoke to reporters during a court hearing in the prison where he is serving a life sentence. The court was considering his request to marry a Jewish immigrant from the former Soviet Union and conduct conjugal visits with her. Amir killed Rabin on Nov. 4, 1995 while Israel was carrying out interim peace agreements with the Palestinians. The peace process stalled after his death, though it was revived by Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Barak in 1999. Full Story
