Homeland Security Secretary Tom Ridge is forming a new government task force to coordinate public and private security, and hopefully prevent the next terrorist attack. Ridge is announcing the move in a speech today at the National Association of Broadcasters meeting in Las Vegas. He says there’s no specific intelligence about possible attacks. But he says the Memorial Day weekend dedication of a new World War Two Memorial in Washington may be an attractive target for al-Qaida or other terrorists. He’s also talking about events like a June meeting of the Group of Eight industrialized nations, Fourth of July celebrations in the U.S., and the Democratic and Republican conventions.
