While many counties in the state are having problems spending their homeland security grant funds, local counties have put the money to use and have plans for funds yet to arrive. In Zanesville, a large portion of homeland security grant money has been used to better equip the local fire department. Fire Chief David Lacy said he didn’t have an exact figure on the amount of money the fire department had been allocated since 2002, although the department recently received a $136,000 grant from the Federal Emergency Management Agency. Through the Muskingum County EMA, the fire department has acquired new equipment that will allow fire fighters to be better prepared for an emergency. Full Story
