Ridge: Olympics Security Makes Progress

Homeland Security Secretary Tom Ridge said Monday that recent talks about security at the Olympic Games in Athens have been “very productive” and indicate good progress is being made. “I think there’s a tremendous amount of progress being made with respect to security at the Olympics,” Ridge told a news conference. Last week in Washington, Greek Minister of Public Order George Voulgarakis met with top U.S. intelligence and law enforcement officials, including Ridge. Voulgarakis delivered fresh assurances that security measures will be ready to protect the Games. Afterward, Ridge’s spokesman Brian Roehrkasse said security work remained, in part, because the Olympics infrastructure still needs to be completed. Full Story
