Thousands of bags are loaded onto planes at Newark Liberty International Airport every day without being scanned for explosives, according to current and former screeners at the airport. Several screeners told The Sunday Star-Ledger of Newark that inadequate staffing and pressure to keep lines moving has affected security. “It’s all smoke and mirrors,” Dan Sabella, a screener at Terminal C who quit in February, told the newspaper. “I didn’t sleep very well when I had that job.
