Terrorism: A Probe Heats Up
A long-running federal investigation into several prominent Islamic institutes and charities in the United States appears to be heating up. During a little-noticed court hearing in Georgia last month, a federal prosecutor indicated that the government was intent on bringing criminal charges against several Islamic groups based in the Virginia suburbs. “We expect them to be charged,” said Assistant U.S. Attorney Gordon Kromberg, referring to Islamic groups that in March 2002 were raided by federal agents looking for evidence that the organizations were involved in possible financing of terrorism.
