Some of Missouri’s state and local first responder teams might have inadequate staffing in the event of a terrorist attack, according to a report released yesterday by State Auditor Claire McCaskill. First responder teams are composed of law enforcement and emergency medical officials, as well as teams that handle hazardous materials. The audit found six of the state’s 22 homeland security response teams and two of Missouri’s six forward regional response teams are understaffed in at least one of those areas. In addition, the State Emergency Management Agency doesn’t have complete or accurate information on equipment and personnel resources of the various teams around the state, the audit says.
