Sonoma and Marin County fire training officers will combine for the largest-ever two-county terrorism drill in Northern California on Saturday, May 8, at Infineon Raceway. The Mutual Aid Drill will simulate a multiple-event terrorism incident and will involve nearly 400 responders from law, fire, emergency medical services, hazardous materials and a multitude of other agencies from Marin and Sonoma counties. More than 25 agencies (local, county, state and federal) will be involved, in all. The 2003 Mutual Aid Drill took place in San Rafael. The day will begin with four hours of participant training from 8 a.m. to noon, with the actual exercise to begin at 1 p.m. at Infineon Raceway. The objective of the “mock disaster” is to test and improve unified command for both Marin and Sonoma counties in the event of a catastrophic incident involving weapons of mass destruction.
