Basra’s governor pointed an accusing finger at Osama bin Laden’s extremist network for a series of car bombings against police which killed 68 people and wounded 98 others. “The attacks have the hallmark of al-Qaeda,” governor Wael Abdel Latif told reporters, pointing to the nearly simultaneous attacks in Basra. An AFP correspondent said the first blast in Basra was heard at 7:15 am (0315 GMT), followed a few minutes later by a second and then a third explosion. Full Story
