Austria’s “Cyber cops” investigated 3,335 cases of crime that was committed with the help of the internet last year. That was 1,405 crimes less than in the year 2002 but police said although fewer the cases were more serious and harder to solve. On Tuesday Klaus Mits, the head of the computer investigations dept of the national police head office said that the clear-up rate has dropped by 18.5 per cent and explained that the reason for this is that the crimes are ever more international, and that colleagues in other countries often only finish their investigations many months after a request for help is made.
