Al-Qaeda bids to split west from Arab allies

European governments on Thursday swiftly rejected an offer of a truce proposed by Osama bin Laden in exchange for a withdrawal of their troops from Iraq and other Muslim countries. The US and its allies said the fugitive leader of the al-Qaeda network would not succeed in driving a wedge between them. “You can’t make a deal with somebody like bin Laden.
