Spanish Socialist leader Jose Luis Rodriguez Zapatero has vowed to wage a relentless war on terrorism as prime minister. He was setting out his plans for the next four years in a speech in parliament to mark his investiture. “The government … will make its priority aim the relentless fight against terrorism,” he said. His PSOE party won the elections three days after the 11 March Madrid train bombings which killed 192 people. Before taking power, Mr Zapatero must win the support of parliament – but he is expected to win the necessary majority in the first round of voting.
