Thousands of students return to classes in Jewish schools around Montreal today under stepped-up security and a heightened police presence, one week after a Jewish elementary school library was destroyed in a firebombing. Community leaders have arranged for security guards to be posted at the schools, which resume after the Passover holiday. “We think this is the responsible and measured thing to do so that we can make sure the kids are in full security,” David Birnbaum, executive director of the Canadian Jewish Congress in Quebec, said in an interview yesterday.
