Taiwan Vice President Annette Lu, known for making controversial statements, said Tuesday she was the main target of a shooting that lightly injured her and President Chen Shui-bian on the eve of elections. “All kinds of evidence show that I was the main target,” Lu told visiting scholars from Singapore. Lu was injured in the knee and President Chen Shui-bian was grazed across the stomach when they were shot with a home-made gun on March 19 while campaigning from an open-top jeep in southern Taiwan. Police say they have no suspects so far. They won re-election the following day by a margin of just 0.2 percent of the vote, or less than 30,000 votes out of more than 13 million cast. Full Story
