More than 130,000 people took to the streets of Argentina’s capital Thursday night to protest a surge in crime, in the wake of the recent murder of a kidnapped 23-year-old college student. Holding white candles and chanting for justice, they gathered at the National Congress building in an act of solidarity for the family of Axel Blumberg, an engineering student whose kidnapping and murder 10 days ago shocked the nation. Crime rates have soared in Argentina in recent years, as its economic crisis worsens. At least one person a day is kidnapped in the South American country, and muggings are commonplace. Full Story
