Home Secretary David Blunkett has launched a ‘technological arms race,’ placing IT at the forefront of a new offensive against organised crime. A government White Paper, ‘One Step Ahead: A 21st Century Strategy to Defeat Organised Criminals’, includes plans to publish an e-crime strategy by June. The paper, released this week, sets out the governance of the new Serious Organised Crime Agency announced in February (Computing, 12 February), which will take over the National Hi-Tech Crime Squad. Baroness Scotland told the House of Lords that the cybercrime plan ‘will look to provide a framework for government, law enforcement and industry action in response to e-crime’. Full Story
