Using $2.4 million in federal grants and forfeited drug money, Sheriff Ed Bieluch is hiring 13 new deputies who will focus on homeland security issues, he said Thursday. Seven deputies will be distributed throughout the county’s seven patrol districts as “uniformed homeland-security liaisons” and six will be assigned to the sheriff’s Homeland Security Division. Their salaries are being paid for three years with the help of a $975,000 federal Community Oriented Policing grant. The remaining money is coming from federal drug-forfeiture funds. Full Story
