New Hamas leader Abdelaziz Rantissi ruled out the prospect of any ceasefire until Israel ends its occupation of the Palestinian territories but allayed fears the Islamist movement could target the United States. “As long as we are under aggression and occupation we are not ready to speak about a ceasefire,” he told AFP as he received condolences at a football stadium in Gaza after the Israeli assassination of the movement’s spiritual leader Sheikh Ahmed Yassin on Monday. Rantissi was named as Yassin’s successor late Tuesday. In a statement issued after Yassin’s killing, Hamas’ military wing hinted that the United States could be targeted as Israel must have “obtained the green light from the terrorist American administration.” Full Story
