Seven Colombian policemen and four civilians they had arrested were killed on Saturday when an army patrol confused them with Marxist rebels in one of the country’s worst incidents of friendly fire, the police said. One police officer survived the hail of army bullets in the incident in countryside near the town of Guatarilla, near Colombia’s southern border with Ecuador, the police said. The police, members of an anti-kidnapping unit, were returning from a raid with the four civilian captives when soldiers mistook them for rebels.
