Spain Implements New Anti-Terror Measures

Spain’s outgoing government said Wednesday it would implement additional security measures to protect airports, transport and key installations in the wake of last week’s bomb attacks that killed 201 people. “We have to be permanently adopting new measures — on prevention, investigation and information — that allow us to be more effective in fighting terrorism…internally and internationally,” said Interior Minister Angel Acebes. The measures had been agreed to counter “the ongoing terrorist threat,” he told a news conference. Acebes said Spain’s Armed Forces would provide support for the security measures, helping to protect potential terrorist targets, patrolling air and sea space and securing the country’s borders.
