Syria has agreed to bury Mohammed Abbas, mastermind of the 1985 Achille Lauro cruise ship hijacking, an official of the militant Palestinian group that Abbas led said Monday. A spokesman for the Palestine Liberation Front (PLF) said Syria assented to bury Abbas. A senior Israeli official said it would have denied any request to inter the 56-year-old ex-guerrilla in the Palestinian territories. Abbas, also known as Abu Abbas, died in U.S. custody in Iraq a week ago. Abbas’s brother Ismail said in Damascus that a funeral was planned for Tuesday. Full Story
