The U.S. embassy in Jordan has urged Americans to step up vigilance after it received information about possible attacks on hotels in the kingdom. The message was first published on the embassy’s Web site on Wednesday, a day before bomb attacks killed nearly 200 people in Madrid. Spanish investigators are unsure whether Basque separatists or Muslim militants were behind the attacks. The message said the embassy was aware of information that “unidentified terrorists” were possibly planning attacks against hotels in mid-January.
