Maoist rebels exploded a series of bombs in the Nepalese capital and around the country on the eve of their proposed a day-long nationwide general strike, injuring three people. “The Maoists set off the series of bombs in and outside Kathmandu to scare the general public to force them to shut down all the businesses, schools and factories and halt movement of vehicles,” a police official said. Monday’s strike was called by the pro-Maoist women’s organization and supported by seven rebel-backed unions, to protest the killings of their colleagues and call for the release of jailed women’s rights activists. The Maoists detonated the Kathmandu local government sub-office which is situated near the Kankeswore historic temple, in the heart of Kathmandu Sunday morning, police said.
