At least six people were killed, including a journalist, and 26 more were wounded when gunmen opened fire on an opposition rally near the presidential palace in Haiti’s capital, medical sources and witnesses said. US and French forces helping police with security during the demonstration promptly moved onto the lawn of the palace, facing the square where the shooting occurred. Two bodies lay on the ground near the presidential palace and a medical worker said another two had been brought to the Canape Vert hospital near the city center. One US journalist suffered gunshot wounds and 18 others were reported wounded in the shooting, while another journalist who worked for Spanish television channel Antena 3, Ricardo Ortega, died after being shot, Spanish television sources said.
