Palestinian Gunmen Attempted Assault on Israeli Checkpoint. Palestinian gunmen in jeeps disguised to look like Israeli army vehicles tried to attack an Israeli military checkpoint at a border crossing in the Gaza Strip on Saturday, but the operation failed and resulted in the deaths of at least six Palestinians by gunfire and a large explosion, Israeli military and Palestinian security officials said. Four of the assailants and two officers from Palestinian security forces were killed in the 10:15 a.m. attack at the Erez border crossing, the main northern transit point between the Gaza Strip and Israel and the site of a large industrial area where thousands of Palestinians are employed. At least 15 people were injured. Most of them were wounded when one of the jeeps exploded outside a Palestinian security post, killing the two officers, witnesses and Palestinian officials said. No Israelis were injured in the incident. Full Story
