Leftist rebels attacked a telecommunications tower in mountains in eastern Nepal Wednesday, killing at least 29 soldiers and leaving 10 others missing, officials said. At least 10 rebels were killed, they said. The rebels knocked down the tower, cutting communications to the area, and set fire to a bank and a government office before fleeing in their biggest attack since walking out of peace talks last August, the officials said. Twelve other soldiers guarding the tower were injured and 10 were reported missing in the fighting in Bhojpur, about 250 miles east of the capital, Katmandu, they said. The clash began about midnight and continued until morning, when reinforcements reached the area by helicopters and the attackers fled, the officials said on condition of anonymity. Full Story
