Soon after a fast-unto-death campaign by jailed Indian fishermen in Sri Lanka, the contentious issue reached a flashpoint Monday after a violent attack on Sri Lankan fishermen by their Indian counterparts, triggering a crisis in relations between the two South Asian countries. The attack off the waters of the northern Sri Lankan district of Jaffna, left one Lankan fishermen missing and two seriously injured. The missing fisherman was allegedly thrown into the sea by the Indians. The incident came hot on the heels of a fast-unto-death campaign by a group of 67 Indian fishermen imprisoned in the north Sri Lankan town of Jaffna. Their demand: immediate release.
