The former head of Mexico’s secret police was ordered held for trial on Wednesday, another major step in a drive to punish state atrocities committed during a “dirty war” against leftists decades ago. A federal judge in the northern city of Monterrey ruled there was enough evidence to try Miguel Nazar Haro in the 1975 kidnapping of an urban rebel who was never seen again, said the defendant’s lawyer and son, Jose Luis Nazar Daw. “The judge did not give credence to the defense arguments,” Nazar Daw said outside the courtroom.
