Britain has closed its embassy in Damascus (search), Syria to the public for security reasons, the Foreign Office said Wednesday. The embassy has been shut to the public since Feb. 10 but continues to function, the Foreign Office said, declining to give details of the security threat. “There is a high threat to western, including British interests, from terrorism in Syria (search), as there is in other countries in the Middle East,” said the travel advice section of the Foreign Office Web site.
