he former president of Chechnya was killed in an explosion of his car in the Gulf Arab state of Qatar today, according to a report by Al Jazeera, the Arab television network that is based there. The former leader, Zelimkhan Yandarbiyev, is wanted by Moscow, which accuses him of involvement in the siege of a Moscow theater which resulted in the deaths of dozens of hostages, said an Arabic statement on the station’s Web site. It said he had been living in Qatar’s capital of Doha for the past three years, but Qatar has refused to hand him over to Russia. Mr. Yandarbiyev died in the hospital as a result of injuries from the blast, which struck his car near a mosque where he and his son had attended Friday prayers, Al Jazeera said.
