Malaysia’s national carrier will put armed security guards on some flights to the United States to comply with new U.S. counterterrorism rules, officials said Thursday. Air marshals will not travel on every flight to the United States, only those that American authorities say raise security concerns, a senior government official said. “The government has directed Malaysia Airlines to comply with the U.S. authorities’ requirement, and several agencies are working together to have a team of air marshals ready,” the official said on condition of anonymity. The United States announced Dec. 29 that it would require armed law enforcement officers to be placed aboard international flights in U.S. airspace when necessary, though some European nations have balked at the demand.
