Based on video footage, Kurdish authorities blame Al Qaeda for the twin weekend bombings that killed scores of people in the northern city of Irbil, a senior Kurdish official said Monday. “A videocamera took some pictures of the person who was in the ceremony and did this crime,” Faraidun Abdul Qadar, interior minister of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan, said by phone from Kirkuk. “We are sure that they are from Al Qaeda.” The suicide attackers detonated their bombs seconds apart Sunday morning inside the offices of the two main Kurdish political parties–the PUK and the Kurdistan Democratic Party–as hundreds of Kurds gathered to celebrate the first day of the Eid al-Adha holiday.
