Speaking from their prisons deep in the jungle, a group of Colombian lawmakers held by Marxist rebels for nearly two years made a dramatic appeal for freedom in a videotape released on Saturday. The tape, recorded and edited by the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia, a guerrilla army known as FARC, comes after U.N. special adviser on Colombia James LeMoyne urged President Alvaro Uribe and the rebels this week to take steps toward a prisoner exchange accord to revive stalled peace talks. Appearing clean and healthy but thinner, the 12 regional legislators read personal messages telling wives and children to take care of the houseplants, study hard at school, pay the bills and cheer the local soccer team.
