Former hostage John McCarthy has met Shia leaders in Lebanon during his first visit back to the country since being freed in 1991, a colleague says. Mr McCarthy, now 47, was kidnapped in 1986 by a militant Shia group while filming a television programme. He returned to Beirut on Tuesday and is spending two weeks making a documentary on the Shia Muslim community.
