Saudi security forces have defused a bomb in a residential area of Riyadh, Saudi officials have said. The device was found next to a petrol station on Sultana Street, news agencies reported, although one source said the bomb was a hoax. Dubai-based al-Arabiya television said the bomb was aimed at an electricity distribution unit in the area. The alert comes amid a crackdown by Saudi authorities on Islamic militants, who have carried out several bombings.
