Two experienced members of the SAS were killed in a crash in Baghdad early on New Year’s Day, defence sources revealed last night. They were named yesterday as Major James Stenner and Sergeant Norman Patterson, originally described as being respectively from the Welsh Guards and the Cheshire Regiment. However, neither of their parent regiments is involved in operations in Iraq. The Ministry of Defence said the men’s vehicle had struck concrete bollards forming part of a security chicane in the Iraqi capital. “There is no suggestion it was anything other than a road accident.” Full Story
