The new US-formed Iraqi army graduated its second battalion as Washington transferred more power to Iraq’s security forces, while France announced that two of its nationals were killed near the rebel town of Fallujah. In the southern port of Basra meanwhile, veterans of Saddam Hussein’s old army clashed with Iraqi police when a 400-man protest for unpaid salaries turned violent.
