A U.S. official said on Friday that Libya’s progress on getting rid of weapons of mass destruction will govern the pace at which it can improve ties with Washington. The senior Bush administration official spoke after comments from Libya’s prime minister suggesting that Tripoli is pressing for a quick removal of sanctions against it. “I would just go back to what the president said on December 19,” the official said, speaking on condition of anonymity. “This is an opportunity for us to work with the Libyans to address these issues,” the official said, referring to weapons of mass destruction.
