A huge bomb blast has killed at least six people – including four police officers and a security official – near the airport in the Afghan capital. A suicide bomber is believed to have detonated the device when police tried to arrest him. The dead included the head of the Afghan defence minister’s personal security, and several other people were critically injured in the blast. Peacekeeping troops quickly cordoned off the highway west of the airport. A spokesman for the Taleban militia denied reports that they were behind the bomb blast. Hamid Agha told the BBC in the Pakistani city of Peshawar that Mullah Abdul Samad – quoted as the Taleban representative who had claimed responsibility for the attack – was not their spokesman.
